  • Overall Review

There are some things that you need to know about this speaker before you buy it, as there are a few misses and a few hits. The first is that the overall design is quite good. It has four rubber feet that keep it stabilized while it is playing (even though there is a slight bit of vibration when it is at its loudest volume). However, it doesn’t have a rubbery body to help protect against scratches and bangs.

The max volume on this speaker is good enough for an average sized room and you can link it with another speaker. There is a good amount of bass, but it isn’t going to outperform some bigger speakers. The audio itself is quite clear and full, with a nice depth of field.

You will be able to play it for a long time, as you can get about 8-10 hours on max volume. You can also keep it plugged in and play it. One word of warning is that the battery alert sound that plays when you are low on battery, and there is no way to disable it. The battery itself charges in about 3 hours with the included micro USB charging cord.

  • BlueTooth

The SoundBox has BlueTooth 4.0, so you will get a connection range of up to 33 feet or so. If the distance is unobstructed, you may be able to get more.

  • Additional Features

The microphone on this speaker is surprisingly great so you can make calls and talk to people.

  • What Do You Get

With the speaker, you will get the speaker itself, the user manual, a charging cord, an AUX cable, a port for a Micro SD card, a pouch for carrying, and a  12-month warranty. Some bundles will include a zippered travel case.

  • Problems

The biggest problem that we’ve been able to spot is the fact that it isn’t waterproof. This isn’t even the type of speaker that you should keep in the bathroom because a little bit of water will absolutely destroy it. Another issue is that the buttons on the speaker itself tend to be really sensitive.

2.JBL Charge 3 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker (Black)

The JBL Charge 3 is one of those names that you will hear all the time when looking for speaker recommendations, but do we think it lives up to the hype? The Charge 3 is an older speaker, but it does hold up for many uses.

Connectivity Technology Bluetooth
Item Dimensions 9.10 x 3.50 x 3.50 inches
Item Weight 1.80 lbs
Power Source Battery Powered
  • Overall Review

The Charge 3 was JBL’s first venture into waterproof speakers, and it is rated highly enough that you can completely submerge it and it should still work. Appearances wise, this speaker is a beautiful speaker with clean lines. The buttons are a soft plastic and slightly raised, but they still work extremely well.

There is a fabric over the speaker, which helps to give it this unique appearance and helps you to grip it. The stand itself is built into the design and keeps the speaker sturdy, even on wet surfaces. The battery life on the Charge 3 is absolutely better than every other option on the list, coming in at nearly 20 hours.

As far as the sound quality goes, this is a powerful speaker. It isn’t going to have the best quality sound when you get up into the higher volume levels. The sound can get a little muddled, particularly if you are listening to it while wet.

  • BlueTooth

The JBL 3 has a strong BlueTooth connection that ranges about 50 to 60 feet in open spaces.

  • What Do You Get

Along with the speaker, you will get a charging block, warranty information, a user manual, and a micro USB charging cable.

  • Problems

While this isn’t a problem, there are newer speakers in this range that will perform better. They are often within the same price range so if you are willing to pay a few extra dollars, you might be able to get a better speaker.

3.Portable Speakers, Anker Soundcore Boost 20W Bluetooth Speaker

The Anker Soundcore Boost delivers a good amount of sound for its size, has a good battery life, and is resistant to splashes. It also has a microphone.

Power 20 Watts
Sound BassUp Technology
Playtime 12 Hours
Water Resistance IPX5
Microphone 1
Others USB Charge out
Size 7.6 x 2.4 x 2.6 in
Weight 1.29 lb
  • Overall Review

Anker has designed some of the best speakers on the market today, and this speaker is its best mini Bluetooth speaker. This speaker is an improvement on the other speakers within the line, which has somewhat underperformed. There isn’t a lot of design here, but it does have what it needs. The rubberized finish is nice to touch and the buttons are big and quite responsive. There is also a built-in microphone, but it isn’t all that great. You would be able to talk to a friend on it, but I wouldn’t suggest using it for a business meeting.

Battery life comes in at about 12 hours. The sound quality is pretty good, but it is best to keep the volume down a little bit to get the best quality. I wouldn’t suggest going over 80% or so.

  • BlueTooth

The range of this speaker is a bit longer than the others on this list, coming in at about 66 feet, even with some obstruction. The “Boost” in the anime comes from a specific button on the speaker that helps to amp up the bass using Anker’s well-known and “patented BassUp technology.”

  • Bonuses

One thing that I really like about this speaker is that it has a USB-out port so that you are able to charge your phones, wireless headphones, or other small devices. This will of course limit battery life.

  • Problems

There isn’t a lot of design here, it is a pretty basic looking speaker. If you touch the speaker a lot, particularly with lotions or grime on your fingers, it will mark up pretty easily.

4.OontZ Angle 3 Ultra (3rd Gen) 5.0 Bluetooth Speaker (Updated)

The Oontz Angle 3 plus is a smaller option that delivers on sound and price. It is water-resistant, has amazing speakerphone capabilities, and some of the best battery life.

Bluetooth Range Up to 100 feet
Supports Playing Two Together Play Two OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA speakers together
Power 14 Watts
Battery Playtime Up to 20 Hours
Bass Radiator 1
Water Resistance IPX7 Waterproof
  • Overall Review

The Oontz has a weird name, but it is still a great option. The brand has a tradition of providing high quality sounds for a small price. It can be placed in different directions, but it isn’t the best looking speaker on the list. Still, it has clean lines and a unique look that some people will appreciate. When you add that to the price, it is well worth it. This is also a durable speaker, perfect for kids or teenagers who may not take care of their gear.

As far as sound quality goes, it is a great option for audiophiles. You probably won’t love it at full volume, but you can get up to about 85% and the bass still sounds great. Battery life comes in at about 30 hours, which is a really long length for a speaker of its price and size. The speaker itself is water resistant, so you can take it into the shower with you or use it by the pool.

  • BlueTooth

The range on this one isn’t all that far, coming in at about 30 feet, depending on the make of the room that it is in and how you have it positioned. Stand it up so that the speaker is facing outwards for the best range.

  • Bonuses

One great feature of this speaker is that it comes with speakerphone capabilities that are quite good. You would be able to get away with using this speaker during a business meeting as long as you aren’t moving around the room.

  • Problems

Sometimes the sound can become quite muffled on this speaker, which is something that you need to note if you plan to use it for a party.

Conclusion: Best Speakers With Chromecast Compatibility

You want certain things out of your speaker and you don’t need other things. When you buying something, however, it is best to have a wide range of options. While you might not need your speaker for a business meeting right now, you never know what you will need in the future.

The good thing is that if you are only looking for Chromecast usage, all of these speakers handle that quite easily. Of course, they also do much more. If you aren’t going to use it for anything else, you probably want to just get one of the cheaper options.

However, if this is going to be your main form of entertainment, you might want to invest in something that is a bit better.
