As such, we tend to think of the Ryzen CPUs as luxury items that are an investment for the future. There is no doubt that it will eventually pay off, but no one can really say when that time is. For gaming, you can go back to some of the less expensive models and still get the same functionality. It’s a bit like owning a really fast sports car and living in New York City- you will have the power to do what you want, but those city lights and speed limits are going to stop you.
If a majority of your applications are already optimized for use with this type of CPU, then, of course, this is a great buy. However, we cannot imagine a world where someone will have a majority of their applications already optimized.
Gamers, in particular, might want to stick with Intel chips right now because they are better at handling the powerful graphics needed for MMO games.
Even so, it is really easy to overclock and get to the benchmarks listed if you do a bit of work. If you have your heart set on getting a new Ryzen CPU, you might want to default to the 1700x as it keeps up pretty well.
