WindowsXP Remote Assistance

Remote Assistance allows another user either on
a local network or over the Internet, to connect to your computer
and assume control of its functioning.
The basics are detailed below. |
Enabling Remote Assistance

Before you can request that someone control
your computer, you need to enable Remote Assistance. |
| 2. |
Right click on the My Computer icon |
| 3. |
Select Properties |
| 4. |
Click on the Remote tab |
| 5. |
Check Allow Remote Assistance invitations
to be sent from this computer |

Click on the Advanced tab |
| 7. |
Check Allow this computer to be controlled
remotely |
|

Starting a Remote Assistance Request
|
| 1. |
Make sure both computers are connected to the
Internet or LAN. |
| 2. |
From the Desktop, press the F1 key to initiate
the basic Help menu |
| 3. |
On the right hand side, under Ask for
assistance,
click on Invite a friend to connect to your computer with
Remote Assistance |

| 4. |
Click on Invite someone to help you |
|
 |
| 5. |
Select the method for contacting the remote
computer. Typically this would be through e-mail. Enter in their
e-mail address and click on Invite this person. |

| 6. |
Enter in any message you want to appear in the
e-mail and click on the Continue button. |
|

| 7. |
Enter in the number of hours you want your
computer to be available for assistance and whether or not you want
a password. |

Accepting the Remote Assistance Request
|
| 1. |
To accept the request, you should have received an e-mail with an
attachment.
Click Yes to accept the invitation.
When prompted to connect to the sender's
computer, type a password if necessary. If you don't know the
password, contact the sender to get it.

Open the attachment with the extension MsRCincident. When
prompted to open the attachment, select Open it |
|

Click on Yes to connect to the remote
computer. |
|

From here you can now:
- Take Control of the remote computer.
- Send a File to the remote computer.
- The Start a Chat session
- Disconnect
- Send messages to the remote user in real time.
