Adding
File Attachment Security
One of the big problems with previous versions of Outlook Express was that
there wasn't much in the way of restricting e-mail attachments.
Since most viruses are being spread through these attachments, the capability is
now available to select which ones you want to accept. |
| 1. | Go to Tools / Options / Security |
| 2. |
Check Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could
potentially be a virus |
 |
| 3. |
If you try an open one of these attachments, you will see a message
OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail:
filename |
Initially this can restrict more file types than you would like.
To be able to turn off the restriction for selected file extensions:
|
| 1. |
Start the Windows Explorer |
| 2. |
Go to Tools / Folder Options |
| 3. |
Click on the File Types tab |
| 4. |
Scroll to the extension you want to change |
| 5. |
Click on the Advanced button |
| 6. |
Uncheck Confirm open after download |
| 7. |
This will immediately allow you to open
attachments with that particular extension. The example below shows the
setting to open ZIP files. |
 |
Configuring for Multiple User Accounts You can
configure Outlook Express for multiple user accounts or Identities |
| 1. | Go to File /
Identities / Add New Identity |
| 2. |
Click on the New button |
| 3. |
Enter in the Name for this Identity |
 |
| 4. |
Click on the OK button |
| 5. |
When prompted to switch, click on the Yes button |
| 6. |
Since this is a new account, you will then be prompted to either Create or
Import Account Information. If you only use Outlook Express, choose
Create an New Internet Mail Account |
 |
|
7. | Follow the prompts and enter in the:
- Display Name
- E-Mail Address
- POP3 and SMTP Server Names
- Account Name and Password
|
|
8. | Once the new Identity is created, you can switch
by simply selecting File / Switching Identity |
