WinChat |
WinChat will allow you to communicate over the internet, real-time, at the same time. All for the cost of a local phone call |
Determining Your IP Address |
|
|---|---|
| Since in a typical dial-up situation, you do not know your respective IP Addresses beforehand: | |
| 1. | You need to find out what yours is, and |
| 2. | Give that information to the other person(s) |
| 3. | To find your IP address run WINIPCFG |
|
Unless you
have two phone lines, e-mail your respective IP Addresses
and Computer Names to each other while you are on-line.
This requires a level of co-ordination since you each need to be waiting for the e-mail. |
|
|---|---|
| 1. | Add the IP address and the Name of the computer you want to connect to into your LMHOSTS file |
| 2. | The format for the LMHOSTS file is: IP address followed by the Computer Name |
| 3. | For example:
1.1.1.1 comp_name |
| 4 | A sample file, LMHOSTS.SAM, should be in the directory where you installed Windows95. |
Determining Your Computer Name |
|
|---|---|
| 1. | Opening up the Network Icon in the Control Panel |
| 2. | Click on the Identification tab |
